Don't worry, this is not a Radio 2 takeover. This, in fact, is a brilliant slice of musical history. Alyn Shipton's two-parter is a fascinating and surprising account of Bing Crosby's influence on pop music, on singing and on the music business itself (part one, part two).

Beat me to it! I love the Artie Shaw quote that Bing was “the first hip white guy in America” because it’s so at odds with how we think of him these days.

Beat me too. I’ve just loaded it up to S3.

And, should you be interested, I have rather a large Bing collection. Always been a fan. Much cooler than Frank.

And they’ve got another series of five docs about Bing on Radio 2 http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/musicclub/doc_crosbytrail.shtml
