Ramblings 100

January 10th, 2008 by Russell Davies

Ramblings is proper Radio 4. None of your heavy metal, or techno, or even experimental soundscapes. Ramblings is a woman in a field with a minidisc recorder and some people to talk to. It’s brilliant. Clare Balding is the woman in question. And she’s brilliant too. She doesn’t interview people, she talks to them. Naturally, humanly, like she’s really listening. And doing it while walking is genius, it adds another dimension to the conversation, both acoustically and er, subjectly(?). It dislocates the usual interview conventions, leads the chat to other places. Anyway. It’s great stuff, whoever’s on. The MP3 here is of the 100th programme, which is a ‘best of’, and is definitely worth your attention. The audio quality isn’t great, not sure why. But, if you fancy some more Ramblings you could always try the podcast, which should be fine. The individual programme pages are worth a look too, there’s normally good information on the co-walker and details of the OS map if you want to do the walk yourself. A nice touch.
