Document - Post-Nuclear Broadcasting

January 29th, 2008 by Russell Davies

I’ve always maintained that the BBC must be one of the top five most successful organisations in the world. (Along with the US military, the Vatican, certain Japanese keiretsu, and, of course, the Illuminati. Putting morals to one side. Obviously.) In the UK this means they’re deeply intertwined with almost every aspect of civic life. This programme looks at an example - the BBC’s role in a post-nuclear landscape. You get the usual startling revelations of the nuclear years, coupled with the posh, stern voices you associate with instructions to properly tag your family body bags. It’s almost nostalgic now. And then there are the odd little details. Like the fact that BBC men with a space in the bunker were also issued with £15 to be spent in the post-nuclear world. MP3 here. Pictures here.

Illuminati are actually rubbish. It’s all PR. I paid my subs over two years ago and my membership card still hasn’t turned up. And the member benefits are very poor. I asked for the secret code book but I got an embossed vinyl bookmark! Very disappointing.
