The Story of Two Tone
August 18th, 2008 by Russell DaviesI wish The Specials had stayed with their previous name - The Coventry Automatics, that would really have solidified the West Midlandsness of the Two Tone time. This is a couple of pretty straight-forward documentaries about Two Tone, straight-forward but good. Some archive stuff, some ancient live performances, some reminiscence, good anecdotes. I liked the fact that a French hotel owner expected The Specials to pay for damage done by The Dammed the previous week, because both bands looked like punks. Style-tribe accountability; that’s what we want to see. MP3 for Part One here. Part Two here.
UPDATE: Hopefully the files work properly now.

Ace audio content. Another day on the internet enjoying stuff while doing the ironing thousands of miles away from the centre of all this. I was too young to grasp what the undercurrents were of two tone and ska but it all comes together pretty much here. Anyway thanks.

These files wouldn’t play for me … :-(

Sorry Neil, not sure what that problem might be. It seems to work here. Is it not working in the player above?

I really would like to get this, but it seems it’s not going through Itunes, might just have to get it direct.

Broken on iTunes subscription plus iTunes won’t play the files when downloaded direct from this website. ID3 Editor won’t open them either. Audacity and Quicktime will. I had to open it in Audacity and export it again as an MP3 to make it work in iTunes. Not ideal.
