Like I said, Night Waves, with economists. Matthew Sweet rounded up a handful of clever and slightly unorthodox economists to talk about, you know, the economy. Very entertaining and just the kind of clever, spontaneous (and only slightly po-faced) thing you can do quite late in the evening on Radio 3 (MP3).
Alan Connor put me onto this one. A really exhilarating 45 minutes of to-and-fro between Philip Dodd and David Starkey about The Tudors (and Henry VIII in particular), history (and historiography in particular) and life in general (and David Starkey in particular) from Radio 3's Night Waves. It's maintained (intermittently, it has to be said) by a scattered band of listeners most of whom live in Britain, which explains the preponderance of programmes from Radio 4, the nation's number 1 speech network.
We record or link to programmes and wrap the whole lot up in a podcast, which is probably the best way to absorb this stuff.
Of course, one day this might turn into something else, maybe a new way of curating speech radio. Or maybe it won’t.
