The London Ear – Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy

June 30th, 2009 by Russell Davies

We proudly present another episode of The London Ear, from, er, sometime in the past. Partly because if we don't stick them up here then they won't be anywhere. This one features the songs, stylings and thoughts of Mr Bonnie 'Prince'  Billy. Otherwise known as Will Oldham etc. The initial ramshackle microphone techniques add to the charm and intimacy - but, don't worry, fairly soon you can actually hear what they're saying. And it's worth listening to. A must for Will Oldham fans, and a probably should for everyone else. MP3 here.

The London Ear – Russell Brand

November 9th, 2008 by Russell Davies

In a frantic bid to keep up with Steve's topical posts I thought I'd stick this up -  The Russell Brand Episode in Ben Thompson's magnificent set of interviews and audio for The London Ear. (On Resonance). It's very good and Mr Brand was caught in a pleasingly un-manic phase. Or seduced into one. Should this whet your appetite, Roo's recent innovations mean you can sample all the extant London Ear's merely by clicking here. MP3 here.

The London Ear – Vic Reeves

July 16th, 2008 by Russell Davies

Another of Ben Thompson's interviews for Resonance. This time with national treasure Vic Reeves. He takes us on an excellent musical tour, including a childhood encounter with Jimi Hedrix in Darlington (perhaps a few hours before this photo was taken). There's also some Dave and Ansel Collins, some splendidly odd British psychedelia from Piblokto, some Strauss, some Dick Gaughen, and Shoplifting by The Slits. Which, strangely, in researching this post I discovered you can get as a complimentary ringtone. That can't be right. MP3 here.

The London Ear – Pet Shop Boys

June 20th, 2008 by Russell Davies

Ben Thompson has a show on the estimable Resonance FM called The London Ear. He's done a series of interviews with top folk, about music, London, life, cabbages and kings. But since Resonance can't archive them all he's given ten of them to us to stick up here. We won't do them all at once but I had to start with this - his chat with the Pet Shop Boys. Excellent music, top chat, good anecdotes and an incredibly long version of Soft Cell's Bedsitter. MP3 here.
